Illustration Friday: Cats

Hello.

I have two entries for this week. The first one's for a piece of text written by Dogcrab, and the second is just something that popped into my head last night. Both illo's are of totally different styles. In fact, I would say the style of the second one is very similar to that of my entry last week and even inspired from last week's theme.

Dogcrab On The Subject Of Cats

Cats.
What is it with old women and cats?
Every mad old bat in every movie and every book, living by herself in a little cottage, has cats. Scads of them. Arabella figg in Harry Potter, the grumpy old hag in Gremlins. All dotty, all weird and all living in a whirl of cat hair and milk. And cat smell. Which is really strong. I read somewhere that what you think about cats is the way you view your ideal partner...So... is this some psychological thing, the cats being the relationships that didn't happen? The scarred tom there, is he the rough-but-ready rogue that got away, those kittens playing with the ball of yarn, the kids she never had?
What do you think?

I've gotten mixed reactions to both styles so far. I'd love to hear what you think of each, so please do leave behind some constructive criticism (good or bad) !

:)

Cheerio.

My vote is for C is for Cat. I like the colors, the jagged boundary separating the background colors, the use of type, the footprints. Very dynamic composition--a lot to keep my eye busy admiring the view!

I prefer the graphical nature of the second one, as well. Though there are cats playing with a ball of yarn in both, I see more movement in the second one. And I like the strong black outlines in contrast to the cool colors you use. Very nice.

I like C is for Cat. Both pieces are fine, but the second has a bolder design and a the focus is on the the drama rather than the events around it. Great job on both pieces.

I like both equally, but for different reasons. Ready to see an animated feature with the first!

Both are very good but I seem to like the top one better. the bottom one does remind me of a poster.

First of all, you are the one that made the first comment for my drawing so I really appreciated:) Secondly, both of your works are awasome.. Especially the second one with that color choice..

The first one seems as though it has a story that goes with it, more illustrative. The second is very graphic can stand alone. Both are cool!!

I'll have to echo many comments here...I like the 2nd one because it's bold and graphic. However, the first one tells a story - much different than the text that accompanies it, though. :)
Cheers!

The first illo reminds me of Looney Tunes, Grandma and Sylvester the Puddy Tat. I love the Cats and the colors in the second illustration. The graphic quality is really eye-catching.

I like the old lady, I like all the details and cats all around the place! I like the colours, and the crooked look of the moon and her face! Great idea and so well done!

I like the first illo for the rich images it evokes. (I didn't know that what we think of cats reflect what we seek for in our ideal partners:-). I like the fabric feel of the sofa and the granny's dress. Is that collage?

The cats in the second illo are quite adorable. I guess I can give them a try:-), but I do not promise anything:-).

I'd have to say that my favorite of the two is the C is for Cat one. I like the patterns and the bright colors you used in it. But I just love the little story behind the first picture. :)
